I use this e-mail address only for routine matters, such as scheduling appointments. I do not use e-mail to discuss the content of your psychotherapy or other protected health information. My e-mail goes through a server that is not encrypted to protect health information. It is possible that a third party could gain unauthorized access to any message you send or receive from me. If you are contacting me regarding an emergency, including a last-minute cancellation, please do not use e-mail. I do not check e-mail daily. I generally respond to e-mail messages within 48 hours.
I work with couples, families, and individuals and I enjoy getting to know people at all different stages of life. While I work with a wide range of concerns, I have a particular interest in relationships, family dynamics, and the transitions that can change the way we see ourselves and the people around us.
I especially enjoy working with couples who feel stuck in patterns of conflict, disconnection, or difficulty communicating. I have Level 1 training in the Gottman Method and incorporate Gottman-informed strategies into my work with couples. I also enjoy working with families as they navigate changes in roles, relationships, and family dynamics, including major transitions such as marriage, becoming parents, divorce, or adjusting to an empty nest.
I have a particular interest in working with teens and young adults. I enjoy helping clients navigate the many transitions that come with growing and changing—whether that is moving from high school to college, entering adulthood, navigating friendships or sibling relationships, coping with a parent’s divorce, starting a career, or figuring out what comes next. Sometimes these transitions are exciting; sometimes they leave us feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure of what comes next.
My approach is grounded in a systemic perspective, which means I pay attention to the relationships, experiences, and patterns that shape what someone is going through. I draw from different therapeutic approaches based on the needs of each client rather than believing there is one right way to do therapy. I also welcome incorporating clients’ spiritual or religious values into therapy when those values are meaningful to them. I value the opportunity to work with people who are willing to look at what is happening in their lives, make sense of the patterns they have found themselves in, and figure out where they want to go from there.
I have experience working with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families, and I genuinely enjoy the variety that comes with working with people at different stages of life. Whether you are working through relationship difficulties, a major life transition, family challenges, or simply feeling like something needs to change, I would be glad to work alongside you.
Miriam works under the direct supervision of Julianne Morrison, MS LPC NCC and accepts appointments in the Germantown office as well as virtual. Please call or email to schedule an appointment with Miriam.
