Everyday Nervous System Skills Group at Kettle Moraine Counseling

Everyday Nervous System Skills is a gentle, accessible mind-body group designed to help you better understand your nervous system and learn practical tools for managing stress, overwhelm, emotions, and the demands of daily life.

Led by Layne Burkette, LPC, E-RYT, Somatic Therapist and Nervous System Educator, these sessions offer a supportive space to pause, reconnect with your body, and practice skills that can help you feel more steady, present, and supported.

Rather than simply talking about stress or regulation, you’ll have the opportunity to practice what regulation can feel like in your body—and build tools you can return to when you need them most.

What We Practice

Each session may include:

  • Nervous system education and somatic skill-building
  • Breathing and grounding techniques
  • Gentle, mindful movement
  • Body awareness practices
  • Mindfulness and meditation
  • Relaxation and visualization
  • Intentions and affirmations
  • Practical coping tools for everyday life

These practices can support greater body awareness, emotional regulation, stress management, self-connection, and resilience. They can be especially helpful during seasons of anxiety, overwhelm, chronic stress, burnout, emotional overload, or simply when you want to feel more connected to yourself.

Gentle, Accessible & Designed for Real Life

You do not need yoga, meditation, or movement experience to participate.

Practices are gentle and adaptable and can be done seated in a chair or with more movement, depending on what feels best for your body. There is no pressure to perform or do anything perfectly.

The goal is not to add one more thing to your to-do list. It is to build simple skills you can actually use—before a stressful meeting, during an overwhelming day, when emotions feel big, or anytime you need a moment to come back to yourself.

Small practices, used consistently, can create meaningful shifts in how you respond to stress and move through your day.
