Hi. I’m Dr. Karen Tucker, a licensed psychologist with over 25 years of experience doing psychotherapy and evaluations with adults in many different settings. I believe that a solid foundation for good mental health is, first, for us to take care of our basic physical needs for shelter, food/water, and sleep. We also need to get activity/exercise and take care of illnesses that come our way. After that, to build on that foundation and live well mostly comes down to:

  • Knowing and respecting your emotions, your inner conflicts, and what’s important to you
  • Finding balance, purpose/constructive activity, and a sense of safety and trust in yourself
  • Nurturing yourself and your relationships; and maybe figuring out how to have relationships
  • Finding ways to express and move through your emotions and act in ways that you
  • - feel good about
    - are effective and appropriate for the situation
    - leave you feeling in control of yourself, and
    - keep your relationships in good shape

Sometimes life, other people, or you yourself have presented challenges that have made it hard for you to live well and feel good. One problem can lead to another, and it may be hard to see your way out of these things:

  • conflict within an important relationship
  • trauma, abuse; intrusive and haunting memories
  • being different from the mainstream
  • difficult choices, no good choices
  • impulsive decisions, not thinking things through
  • substance abuse/addiction
  • being uncertain about a big decision, a life direction, your future
  • getting treated poorly by others, being bullied, racism
  • serious illnesses or accidents
  • death, loss, ending of important relationships
  • being anxious around others, hard time making friends
  • concern about friends or family members
  • extreme emotions that are hard to control and make it hard to think
  •  

Whatever you are feeling dissatisfied or uncomfortable about in your life, now is the perfect time to do something about it.  I am passionate about providing high-quality, ethical care. It is my highest aim to help you reach your goals, understand and regulate your emotions, change destructive or unwanted behaviors, improve your ability to relate to others, function more effectively in the world, and experience serenity, self-respect, and self-acceptance. I would be pleased and honored to talk more with you about what you're going through and partner with you to make a plan to change what isn't working and to move towards a life you look forward to living.
